Terms of carriage
01About these terms
These terms apply to every service that 24/7 Transportation Ltd ("24-seven", "we", "us") provides to a business customer ("you"), unless we agree otherwise in writing. By instructing us, you accept these terms. We provide services to businesses only, not to consumers.

02Definitions
- Goods: the cargo carried in or with a trailer, including any packaging or pallets.
- Trailer: a trailer, semi-trailer or container that you or your principal provide.
- Relay service: collecting an unaccompanied trailer at a UK port, delivering it to the consignee and returning it to the port.
- Consignee: the person or business named to receive the Goods.
- Handover point: the place where responsibility for a trailer passes between you and us, as set out in section 5.
03Our services
We provide road haulage in Great Britain, including:
- the cross-Channel trailer relay, collecting unaccompanied trailers at Dover or another agreed port;
- booking unaccompanied ferry crossings, if you ask us to;
- preparing customs and border documents, including GMRs and transit documents, if you ask us to;
- dedicated vehicles and drivers;
- round trips and trailer swaps within the UK.
Where we prepare customs documents, we rely on the information you or your principal give us. You remain responsible for its accuracy and for any duties and taxes due.
Each job is confirmed by a booking or quote that sets out the route, timings and price. If that booking conflicts with these terms, the booking prevails for that job.
04Your responsibilities
You must:
- give us full and accurate details of the Goods, including weight, value, any dangerous goods (ADR) and any special handling or temperature needs;
- make sure the Goods are properly packed, loaded, secured and within legal weight limits;
- provide a trailer that is roadworthy, legally compliant and fitted with a working seal, lock or other security as agreed;
- arrange customs and border formalities, including any Goods Movement Reference (GMR), transit documents and import declarations, unless the booking confirms that we will do this for you;
- book the unaccompanied ferry crossings, unless the booking confirms that we will book them;
- tell us in advance if the Goods are high value or a frequent theft target, so that we can apply the right security measures.
You are responsible for any fines, costs or delays caused by incorrect information, missing documents or a non-compliant trailer.
05Collection, handover and delivery
Before we accept a trailer, our driver checks the seal number, the outside of the trailer and the documents, and takes photographs. We will record any damage, broken seals or missing documents and tell you before we move the trailer.
Our responsibility starts when our driver collects the trailer at the port after these checks.
- Our responsibility for the Goods ends when the consignee or its agent signs for them.
- Our responsibility for the trailer ends when it is returned to the agreed port terminal and checked in for the return sailing.
Unless we receive other instructions, we may deliver to anyone at the delivery address who appears to be authorised to receive the Goods.
06Timing and delays
We will take all reasonable steps to meet agreed collection and delivery times. A delivery is time-definite only if we confirm that in writing for that job.
We are not responsible for delays caused by ferry or port operators, border or customs checks, missing documents, road closures, traffic, weather, or anything else outside our reasonable control.
Waiting time at collection or delivery beyond 2 hours is charged at £00 per hour.
07Prices and payment
- Our prices are as quoted, plus VAT where it applies.
- Extra costs caused by changes you make, waiting time, failed delivery attempts or extra port charges may be added. We will tell you about these as soon as we can.
- Payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date, without any deduction or set-off.
- We may charge interest and compensation on late payments under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
08Liability for loss or damage
Where a job forms part of an international carriage contract governed by the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR), our liability is decided by the CMR Convention.
For all other work, our liability for loss of or damage to Goods is limited to £1,300 per tonne of the gross weight of the Goods lost or damaged, up to a maximum of £00,000 per trailer, unless we agree a higher limit in writing before the job.
We are not liable for:
- indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit, contracts or market;
- loss or damage caused by inherent defects in the Goods, inadequate packing or loading, or a defective trailer;
- Goods carried in a trailer whose seal was intact on delivery, unless you can show that we caused the loss.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
09Claims
- Visible loss or damage must be noted on the delivery paperwork at the time of delivery.
- Any claim must be notified to us in writing within 7 days of delivery, or of the date when delivery should have happened.
- A fully documented claim must be sent to us within 9 months.
Where the CMR Convention applies, its notice periods and time limits apply instead.
10Insurance and security
We hold goods in transit and public liability insurance. Details are available on request. Our cover follows the liability limits above, so you should insure the full value of the Goods yourself.
Our security procedures comply with TAPA TSR Level 2. They include seal checks with photo evidence, planned routes and rest stops, and 24/7 GPS monitoring.
11Right to hold goods (lien)
If you do not pay an amount you owe us, we may hold the Goods or the trailer until the debt is paid. If it remains unpaid for 30 days after we notify you, we may sell them and use the proceeds to pay what is owed, plus our costs.
12Subcontracting
We may use other licensed operators or drivers to carry out all or part of a job. These terms continue to apply, and we remain responsible to you for the work.
13Events outside our control
We are not liable for failing or delaying to perform a job because of events outside our reasonable control. These include strikes, port or ferry disruption, border closures, extreme weather, civil unrest, war and government action.
14Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except where the CMR Convention provides otherwise.
